Moving From Wix or Squarespace to a Framer Template: A Step-by-Step Plan

PUBLISHED 2026-10-10

Many small businesses start on Wix or Squarespace, and many eventually want to move. Sometimes it is the design, sometimes the editing experience, sometimes a specific feature. Framer has become one of the common destinations, especially for businesses that want a more distinctive design without hiring a developer.

The first thing to understand is that moving from Wix or Squarespace to Framer is not an export and import. It is a rebuild. This guide sets out a step-by-step plan to move your site to a Framer template without losing your content, your search traffic or your enquiries.

Why it is a rebuild

Each website builder stores sites in its own format, and none of them lets you lift a complete site out and drop it into another:

  • Wix does not offer a whole-site export. Sites built on Wix run on Wix's servers.
  • Squarespace can export some content, such as blog posts and certain pages, as a WordPress-format file, but not the full design or every type of content.
  • Framer does not import sites from other builders and does not export to HTML either.

Migration guides from agencies such as Sinton describe the move as a rebuild for this reason. Webflow's own help centre describes moving from Framer to Webflow as "a rebuild, not a transfer", which shows the same rule applies in every direction.

This sounds daunting, but starting from a template makes it manageable. The design and structure are already done. Your job is to move the content in and keep your search traffic intact.

Before you start: inventory

Make a complete list of what you have now. A simple spreadsheet works. Record:

  • Every page, with its current URL, such as /services or /about-us
  • Blog posts or news, with URLs and dates
  • Forms, where they send enquiries and what fields they collect
  • Integrations: booking, payments, email newsletter, analytics, chat
  • Images and files you will need to download
  • Which pages get the most traffic, from your analytics or search console

Pay special attention to pages that bring in visitors from search. These are the ones you most need to keep, with redirects if their URLs change.

Pick a template that already fits

The less you have to restructure, the faster the move. Choose a template that is built for your type of business, with pages that match your list.

Map each of your current pages to a page in the template. If you have pages the template does not, decide whether to add them, merge them or drop them. If the template has pages you do not need, delete them.

A template with a CMS is especially helpful if you have many blog posts, projects or products, since they become collection entries rather than separate designed pages.

Move the content

Work through your inventory page by page:

1. Copy text from your old site into the template, editing as you go. Moving is a good moment to tighten wording and update anything out of date.

2. Download and re-upload images. Use your original, high-resolution files where possible rather than saving images from the live site. Replace all demo photos in the template.

3. Move blog posts into the CMS. For a few posts, copy them by hand. For many, check whether your exported file or a spreadsheet can be used to import them into Framer's CMS, and test with a few first.

4. Recreate page titles and meta descriptions for every page.

5. Check the phone layout of every page after you add content.

Keep your search traffic: URLs and redirects

This is the step most often skipped, and the one that matters most for search traffic.

Where you can, keep the same URLs. If your services page was /services, make it /services in Framer too.

Where URLs must change, set up redirects from each old URL to the new one, so visitors and search engines following old links land on the right page. Wix blog posts, for example, often have URLs that look different from a Framer CMS structure. Map every old URL to its new home.

When we checked Framer's pricing page on 9 October 2026, site redirects were listed as a feature of the Pro plan. Check the current plan details before you rely on this, because it may affect which plan you need during the move.

Forms, email and integrations

Recreate every form and point it at the right inbox. Send a test from each one.

Then reconnect integrations:

  • Booking: link to or embed your booking system.
  • Payments: link to your payment provider or checkout.
  • Newsletter: connect sign-up forms to your email platform.
  • Analytics: add your analytics tracking.

Your email accounts are usually separate from your website builder. If your email runs through your domain provider or a separate email service, it should not be affected by moving the website. If you bought email through Wix or Squarespace, check how it will work after you leave before you cancel anything.

Switch the domain

When the new site is ready and tested on Framer's temporary address:

1. Choose a quiet time, such as early in the week and outside your busiest hours.

2. Connect your domain to Framer, following Framer's instructions and your domain provider's settings.

3. Wait for the change to take effect, which can take from minutes to a day or more.

4. Check the live site on your domain, including the main pages and forms.

If your domain was bought through Wix or Squarespace, you can usually either point it at Framer or transfer it to another domain provider. Check the process and any transfer lock before you start. Do not cancel your old plan until the new site is live and working.

After launch

In the first few weeks:

  • Test the old URLs you redirected, to make sure each lands correctly.
  • Submit your new sitemap in Google Search Console.
  • Watch your search traffic and fix any pages that stop appearing.
  • Check every form again with a real enquiry.
  • Update links to your site on social profiles and business listings if any URLs changed.

Browse all templates to find one that fits your business, and read Framer vs Wix, Framer vs Squarespace and how to connect a domain in Framer for more detail.

A migration is a rebuild, but it is a planned one. Inventory first, choose a template that fits, keep your URLs, redirect the rest and only switch off the old site when the new one is working.
